Bail Out

On page 2 of Dom Post: "Kahui Lawyer hits out at Nat bail plan" (it's too tough)
On page 3 of Dom Post: "Man sentenced after killing 2 year old while out on bail"

That almost says it all. But
another story reflects on the soft approach to crime. A man was given 50 hours community service for punching another man in the face in a public toilet. Apparently the man "glanced" in the wrong way! Well 50 hours should sort out the thug. Except that the story noted "this is added to the other 300 hours community service the man is currently serving". And recently, a 50 year old man was raped in a toilet by another man.

Elsewhere, a father of three scuffles with a tagger, the tagger ends up dead. Today, a teen tells a tagger to "stop" and ends up stabbed. Citizens taking on law breakers and defending their property needs to get the support of the state. Or are we (as Trotter suggests) supposed to lie back and take it?

Sounds like old Chris Trotter has had a bit of a 'charmed life', going by his statements.

He might have different ideas once he's had a shotgun shoved in his back and pushed up the stairs, by 2 thugs. That happened to me when I was in my early 20s boarding in W.AK. I always swore if a similar thing happened to me, I'd have a go at the bastards regardless of the consequences, instead of co-operating as the police suggest.

When they entered the property they jumped 2 other boarders held them hostage in the kitchen for awhile. Took knives out of the kitchen draws and threatened them with them. Also slashed the phone lines.

The police never caught them they disappeared into the night!

  2. The entire justice system has been politicized by a nanny state - pc liarbour party. These govt. creeps have aided criminals by the systematic failures and dysfunctional legislation which is in bad need of a "radical rethink" at the expense of so many victims.

I doubt anybody in the National party has the mettle to fix our problematic justice system.

Not until we have a tough hard core Minister of Justice who has experienced the coal face of injustice will we enjoy, as a society which is safer for our children and grand children.

They'll never say it publicly, but the short answer is yes. The state would rather you were unarmed and defenseless than see you defend yourself and the ones you love.

  4. As MK (above) implies, if you have the mindset and the will to stand up to informal thugs, then you have the same attitude to stand up to the pond slime in power. Needless to say ... this will never do.

Sorry about the botched version above and the subsequent edit -- typed in a flaming rush ... as usual.

  5. The politicians are making new laws. I don't think we need so many. If only the police and justice system enforced the ones we had, I think things would be different.

Weewillie, I removed the duplicate comment with typo.
