Heroism

Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune
This is what a hero looks like, my friends.

Flight Lieutenant Ian Fortune is an RAF pilot flying Chinooks in Afghanistan. He was on a mission in Helmand Province to rescue casualties during a battle between American and Afghan troops and the Taliban.

As he was taking off with his casualties the firefight resumed and his helicopter struck. A bullet penetrated his helmet striking him right between the eyes. Despite being wounded himself he was able to get his wounded passengers and himself to safety.

Its unusual to hear stories like this from Afghanistan - this one probably only escaped because there was a TV reporter on board to report it..
