Hmmmm

The University College London Union will probably never see any irony in this.
The president of a London university atheist society has resigned over a row about an image of the Prophet Muhammad.

The society at University College London (UCL) published an image on its Facebook page showing "Jesus and Mo" having a drink at a bar.

The atheist group was asked by the UCL union to remove it, but refused and started a petition defending its freedom of expression.

A student Muslim group began a counter-petition asking for its removal.
The cartoon in question of course is designed to be offensive to Christians as well as Muslims.
"The society was asked to remove the image because UCLU aims to foster good relations between different groups of students and create a safe environment where all students can benefit from societies regardless of their religious or other beliefs."

  1. It's not "designed to be offensive" to Christians or Muslims, it's designed to be funny to those of us that think all religions are ridiculous - and it is.

  2. Perhaps the problem is that atheists need to keep making jokes of other people's beliefs to assert their own?

I know we Catholics have a large treasure trove of Catholic jokes.

Atheists obviously need to start creating their own jokes. Here, I'll help:

    Q. Why did the Atheist not cross the road?
    A. He couldn't see the other side.

    Q. Why did the atheist fall out of the tree?
    A. Because he was dead.

    Q. What happens if you cross an atheist with a Mormon?
    A. You get some-one who doesn't know why they knock on doors.

    Q. Why do Atheists make fun of Christians?
    A. Because they BELIEVE we are idiots! (And with immovable faith)

    Q. Hear about the atheist that died and went to heaven?
    A. Hah! Like that will ever happen!

  3. Atheists are people that think it's really important to stand up and proclaim that an absence of belief means they don't need to stand up.

You see, now the reason that's not funny is that faith is belief without evidence, and when it comes to the religious and idiocy, we're certainly not lacking evidence.

  5. An atheist is a person with no invisible means of support.

Hey Zen, when was the last time yopu had an atheist knock on your door and say "Hi, I want you to know about the god I don't believe in. Let us sit together and not pray"?

Why is it only the godly who feel the need to preach ad only the godly who become violent when they're "offended"?

They'd only got as far as advertising campaigns at the moment - ads on buses that kind of thing.

They have also increasingly commented on blogs to push their position, with countless blogs dedicated to atheism.

They send out newsletters, write big thick books full of cutting remarks and ill-mannered statements, often expounding views that suggest a profound ignorance of philosophy and logic (assuming that science gives them all the tools they need to develop an argument).

With all that activity, door knocking can't be far away.
